Christie’s second annual Bid to Save the Earth auction wrapped up last week earning a whopping $2.4 million for the environment.
Bid to Save the Earth actively works to raise environmental awareness and support a healthier planet. Proceeds from the auction go to world-leading, science-based environmental nonprofits; Conservation International, Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and The Central Park Conservancy.
The Green Auction raised $1.4 million on March 29th at a star-studded live auction which took place at NYC’s Rockefeller Center. Christie’s partnered with Charitybuzz.com in an online auction through Arpil 7th which brought in an additional $750,000.
The live auction drew a collection of collectors, philanthropists, celebrities, and designers for an “over-the-top” evening of fashion, entertainment, and auctioning off of magnificent items. Among the incredible items auctioned were a one-hour tennis lesson with John McEnroe which went for $26,000, and a day with former President Bill Clinton which raised $100,000.
High fashion also had a large presence at the auction, with a green fashion show debuting Fall 2011 designs from famous designers world-wide. Among them was luxury eco jewelry brand, John Hardy, who donated the brilliant Hijau Cinta Cuff. The stunning piece is made of 18K gold with an exquisite green peridot stone encircled by diamonds and featuring a diamond dragonfly (see photo above). The cuff retails at $40,000.

Designed with his muse, model and environmentalist Angela Lindvall, the bracelet is a delicate recycled silver ring on organic cotton cord — lovely in its simplicity. All net proceeds from the sale of the bracelets are donated to the NRDC.
