Yurt Living: Weddings + Special Events
Selene and Alex Cole have a US-neighbor company, Little Foot Yurts, in Nova Scotia. Their style is based on traditional Mongolian and Kazakh yurt designs.
Most regions in the US have some style of yurt company these days, so what’s the big deal? The answer is rental and setup services.
I am impressed with how the seating counts are known for each layout, be it for a ceremony or dining. The Cole’s can tell you how many people can fit around entertainment, a bar, dance floor, etc.
The setup includes lighting and flooring. They provide 100% natural coconut husk herringbone weave flooring and say it’s best for uneven ground. It rolls out in sections and has an ambient feel. Terms detailed on the site reveal experienced perspectives.
Their popular rental has a seven-foot, hand-carved wooden entry door. The domed cathedral ceiling is a focal point and the Egyptian cotton canvas walls can be opened for ventilation and effect.
Perfect weather is not a worry and the shelter is secure. If you must call it a tent, it’s the Rolls Royce!
Other yurt occasions may be a festival, family celebration or for a community event. Pictured is a vendor exhibit scene. White canvas-walled yurts are ideal for media interviews and press conferences.
Workshops are popular and the Cole family conducts their own for yurt builder enthusiasts at any skill level. They also cater to educators for schools and youth programs.
