Can Your Jewelry Save the Earth? Ours Can!

Ladies, we all know that a new, chic outfit is not complete without an accessory. It doesn’t matter if you are getting ready for a time out with friends or a day at the office; it’s a must-have! In this three-part series, we’ll focus on eco-friendly bracelets, necklaces and earrings which help to minimize any size carbon footprint as well as compliment your look.

Original Good, a new product line by World of Good, Inc, shows us a new way to appreciate the nature all around us with handcrafted jewelry made from shells, glass, wood and real bone beads. After looking at different sites about the art of jewelry making, I was happy to find out that animals are not being hunted for their bones but rather a by-product of the environment. Whew!

As I scrolled through the collection at www.originalgood.com, I was fascinated by the assortment of colors, sizes and textures. No two bracelets are alike.

The unique design of the “Bad to the Bone Elastic Bracelet” (shown top left) really interested me because it is created by using a traditional, Indian technique of batik wax blocking, bone beads and elastic string. It is a custom creation of Asha Handicraftes.

“Asha” translates to hope in Sanskrit, the hope your purchase can give to low-income women and their families around the world. Almost seventy percent of artisans employed by Original Good are women and oftentimes they are also the only wage earners.

These fair trade products give women opportunities to build their self-esteem, provide better education for their children and improve their living conditions. World of Good also donates ten percent of its profits to World of Good Development Organization, which provides grants to support projects to improve artisan communities.

Original Good believes we can make a difference through our spending power by supporting companies that make a commitment to fair trade and ending world poverty. It’s possible to look fashionable while helping the environment and others!
