Holiday Shopping How to Make Your Dollars Count

Holiday shopping season is the perfect time to create change in the world. This time of year sees more money spent than any other, so may as well make it count.

This post is part of Important Media’s “More About the Love, Less About the Stuff” holidays series. This year, we’re talking all about redefining holiday traditions to focus on compassion over just more stuff.

Whether your shopping list is short or long, you can tailor your purchases to support you ideals. Choosing items the people on your list will love that are green, clean, and ethical gives back, supports good health and the enviro, and spreads more of that joyous feeling.

Healthy + Ethical Holiday Shopping Tips

Sustainable Style // If clothing is on your list, shop sustainable items. This way you know that they are ethically produced and made with earth friendly materials. And this doesn’t have to cost you any more than conventional clothing. Many sustainable fashion brands are coming out with stylish items that are budget friendly too.

Nontoxic Beauty // Beauty products are a sure hit with all women. Who doesn’t love a fun new lip color or body lotion? Give the gift of safety by purchasing nontoxic items. Make sure your purchases are cruelty-free too. Shop Spirit Beauty Lounge.com, Eco Diva Beauty.com, True Natural.com, and Cap Beauty.com for some safe and fun gifty ideas. Read up on how to shop organic cosmetics.

Healthy Treats // For that foodie on your list, try gifting organic treats. Yummy and better for their health. Better still, make them yourself.

Thoughtful Contribution // You can also choose to give to a cause in the giftees name. Black Jaguar White Tiger rescues big cats. Richard Leakey’s Wildlife Direct works to protect our lovely elephants. Give a goat to a family in need through Heifer.org.

These simple switches in your holiday shopping have big impact. Not only in the obvious benefit they bring to the people on your list, but the vote you are making with your dollars. This type of giving also encourages others to go green or give back to the world. It’s not bad for your spirit (or karma) either.

Spread the joy!
