Before and After Project Looks at International Standards of Beauty

What does beautiful mean? Browsing the fascinating photos in Ester Honig’s project Before and After reveals the varying standards of beauty around the world.

It’s no secret that Photoshop is a key part of fashion photography. After snapping those pictures, models are airbrushed, color corrected, and altered in post production to make them beautiful. The before and after can be very dramatic.

What makes Honig’s project different from the more typical Photoshop before and after is her method. She used the service Fiverr to find freelancers on the cheap from more than 25 countries. She supplied each one with a photo of herself and just said, “Make me beautiful.”

The photo at the top of the page is from Vietnam, and it’s one of the more subtle transformations. Check out some of the other Before and After photos below:
