No Sugar Diet :: Feel + Look Better without the White Stuff
A friend of mine is taking the Whole30 challenge starting this week. I was tempted to go along for the ride, and even ate the Whole30 way one day just to see what it was like. Definitely do-able (for 30 days, anyway) but adjustments to diet and mindset are definitely required.
After my Whole1 it was clear I was missing a couple of things. Namely – peanut butter and dairy. I love my pb and, since I eat very little meat, use it as protein in my diet. Along with eggs, which are allowed in the Whole30 plan. As for dairy; while I don’t eat a lot of it, it definitely comes in handy.
I’ve cut different items out of my diet before in an effort to feel my best. Dairy didn’t seem to have much effect on how I feel. Again, probably because I don’t eat that much of it. But sugar and bread? Different deal. I feel that these are the source of my problems with headache, neck pain, and general sh*t feeling. Not to mention the muffin top.
So I’ve decided to do 30 days of no sugar or grains. I’m even cutting out my beloved oatmeal, at least at the beginning. The first 2 or 3 days in on no-sugar is always challenging, but today I’m doing pretty well. My Easter carb load probably helped with that.
That’s not to say tomorrow (or even later today) will be as easy. Then I came across I Quit Sugar.com by Sarah Wilson. Yep, written by a gal who gave up the sweet stuff after an immune system disorder diagnosis. She was told by several specialists to stop eating sugar, but was never given any good advice on how to go about quitting. So she came up with her own plan.
You can join Sarah’s program, read one of her books, or peruse her blog for tips on stopping the sugar insanity in your life. She is ok with certain sweeteners (brown rice syrup and stevia) and provides recipes to curb your sweet tooth. But I am going for NO sugar (except that found in fruit and other real foods) for the next 30 days. Can’t wait to see how that feels!
