Natural Sunscreen Review, Top Picks for Summer

Natural sunscreens

When it comes to sunscreen, effectiveness is at the top of the list. Last summer I talked about why mineral sunscreens are better at protecting against UV damage. Let’s take a look at a couple of new additions to this year’s natural sunscreen line up.

Natural Mineral Sunscreens :: How they stack up in real life.

On our recent family beach trip I brought along a selection of sunscreens. Two brands sent me samples of their mineral sunscreens to try out. Let’s take a look…

Sun Stuff from Purple Prairie Botanicals was probably what we used most while at the beach. The Mineral Lotion is SPF 30 and made with zinc. Does a good job of protecting skin and isn’t super greasy. The Sun Stick was a favorite. Easy to apply to face, ears, tops of feet, shoulders, backs of hands and even lips. And there is a Sun Stuff Lip Balm similar to the stick, which we used multiple times each day. Nothing like sunburned lips!

John Masters Organics now makes a SPF 30, and I had to get my hands on some. Due to an aloe allergy, I couldn’t try this one. My husband did though. He had a pretty sunburned nose and applied this mineral sunscreen, then spent the day outdoors. His nose was still covered in it (yes, it is white) at the end of the day. Wow, talk about staying power.

I would definitely add these two to my mineral sunscreen lineup. For more choices, check out this article on great natural mineral sunscreens and how best to use them.
