What’s the Best Natural Deodorant? My Top 5!

Best Natural Deodorant

Deodorant. Everyone uses it, but it is a highly personal thing. It is also probably one of the most difficult switches to make when going all natural. The trick is choosing the best natural deodorant for you. Or possibly two or three.

My theory on deodorant is this: You must rotate between different products to maintain freshness. I know many people who have tried this theory out and agree. Trust me, if your old faithful has begun leaving you not so fresh, switch to something different and get better results. I rotate deodorant every three weeks or so. The trick is buying products that get the job done.

I’ve tested many natural deodorants and many do not make the cut. They must be effective (in stopping odor and, preferably, wetness), smell good, and feel comfy too. Following are my favorite 5 natural deodorant products. A couple are old tried and trues, but there are a couple of new comers to the list. All are made with natural ingredients and free from harmful junk.

Top 5 Best Natural Deodorant Products

Primal Pit Paste

Feel: A deodorant cream that you apply with your fingers. While I would definitely prefer a stick, most of my favorite deods come in creams, so… This is tops in consistency, sort of like a very thick frosting but not at all sticky or greasy. Super easy to wash off of hands. Comfortable on skin.

Scent: While I usually steer clear of citrus in deodorant (who wants a sour smell in their pits?) I actually like this Thyme + Lemongrass scent. Smells like a mix of baby powder and lemons, but disappears on skin.

Effectiveness: Smell fresh all day long with this stuff. Some people think I’m crazy, but I swear products made with arrowroot are really good at absorbing wetness. I never feel wet when I use it.

Osmia Organics Deodorant Cream

Feel: As the name implies, this is also a cream. A thinner consistency than most deodorant creams I’ve tried. Slightly greasy feel at first, but has a powdery finish.

Scent: Love this true lavender scent. Everything Osmia is so lusciously scented, and they carry that through with this product.

Effectiveness: This one contains tapioca starch, baking soda, and fuller’s clay to absorb wetness. Interesting combo that is pretty effective, though not quite as much as the arrowroot.  Perfect for ordinary days, when you won’t be taking long runs or doing any public speaking.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant

Feel: This one is officially a cream, but is very thick and takes some work to apply. My trick is to get a pea sized ball out of the jar, warm it between my finger to soften, and then apply to underarms. Takes a little more scrubbing to get off of hands and feels stronger on skin.

Scent: I use the Ylang-Ylang + Calendula and it is fine by me. Soft and subtle, as a deodorant should be. My husband likes the Cedarwood + Juniper.

Effectiveness: This one made my Holiday Gift Guide for Men, and for good reason. It is highly effective at maintaining freshness. I wear this one when I know I’m going to need extra help staying fresh.

Soapwalla Deodorant Cream

Feel: What I think of as a true cream. Soft, smooth, easy to apply and wash off of hands. Gentle on skin and not too greasy.

Scent: Almost lightly medicinal, but so soft. My preferred deod scent.

Effectiveness: This is one of my staple products and most used deodorant. I love this product and so does the rest of my family.

Bubble + Bee Pit Putty

Feel: Finally, a stick! Not too fast, I do rub it in with my fingers after applying. But that’s just me.  They’ve recently come out with a deodorant cream too.

Scent: My preferred is the Jasmint.

Effectiveness: This product has been a regular in my personal care routine for years. The first natural deodorant I found that worked. It keeps you fresh and contains the arrowroot I so love.
