Dry skin and hair? Try these 5 beauty recipes!

5 DIY Recipes to Beat Dry SkinWinter weather takes a toll on our skin, doesn’t it? All of that cold, dry weather leaves dry skin behind. Now that spring is around the corner, it’s time to wash that winter skin away and get ready for shorts weather!

We’re already seeing glimpses of spring here in Atlanta, and I’m sending warm weather vibes to my friends up north! If the winter has left you with dry skin on your face, hands, feet, body, and even your lips, we’ve got some DIY beauty recipes to help turn things around.

Why DIY?

Of course, you can buy scrubs and lotions at the store that do a great job of helping your dry skin bounce back from the winter chill. The trouble with a lot of those store-bought beauty products is that they often contain pretty dicey ingredients.

There are safer brands out there, and if you can afford to stock your cabinet with organic beauty supplies, I say go for it! For folks living on a budget, though, that might not be feasible. It’s also just plain fun to make your own beauty supplies! Every time you open a jar of homemade lotion, you get to think, “I made this!” Not a bad moment to add into your beauty routine, right?

The other benefit to making your own beauty supplies is that you get to cut down on your plastic waste. Beauty products tend to come in plastic bottles, but the ingredients you use to make your own supplies often come in bulk  – meaning less plastic or the chance to bring your own reusable container – or they come in glass. Anything we can do to cut back on the plastic in our lives is a good thing, right?

5 Beauty Recipes for Dry Skin

1. Soothing Face Scrub

There are quite a few scrubs on this list, and that’s because dry skin tends to be a two in one problem: you have dead skin cells that need to be sloughed away, and underneath there’s skin that needs a moisture boost. Scrubs like this oatmeal face scrub exfoliate and moisturize at the same time, leaving you with radiant skin.

2. 4 Homemade Lotion Recipes

The sort of lotion you need will depend on where you’re dealing with dry skin. The link above has four options for homemade lotions that you can use based on your personal needs and your preferences.

3. DIY Foot Scrub

Has a winter of boot-wearing done a number on your feet? Slough away dry skin with this two-ingredient scrub, then follow up with one of the homemade lotions above. You won’t be sorry!

4. Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Coconut oil is magical stuff, and it can give your hair just the moisture boost it needs after a long, dry winter. I like the tutorial linked above because she doesn’t just tell you how to use the mask but how not to use it.

5. Mint-Sugar Lip Scrub

Your poor lips need a little post-winter TLC, so don’t neglect them! A gentle scrub helps prevent chapping and leaves your lips kissable and soft.
