Natural Care for Dry Hands + Feet

Hands and Feet by Genna G at Flickr.com, cc

The season has barely changed and already you are likely seeing signs of dry weather. One of the first areas that needs extra moisture is your dry hands and feet.

It seems like overnight my hands went from normal to rough and dry. You too? With a bit of rich moisture you’ll have your digits back to soft and smooth in no time.

While I love oils for body moisturizing, something thick and creamy is ideal for treating rough, scaly hands. Following are some of my favorite balms and creams for the chilly season. Bonus: they work wonders on feet too.

B-leaf Botanics 3-Day Repair Body Cream $28

S.W. Basics Cream $32

Suti Purity Organic Moisturizing Balm $41

You may be thinking – Why would I spend 30+ bucks on one of these when I can buy a jar of Vaseline for next to nothing?

Because petroleum jelly contains loads of carcinogenic contaminants. Plus it blocks pores, trapping toxins and causing breakouts. Avoid petroleum jelly and products that contain it. And remember, you only need a dab of natural balm or cream to get the job done, so they last a good long time. Worth every penny.

For super intensive therapy, don gloves and socks over well moisturized hands and feet, and sleep your way to smooth. The above products are perfect for super hydration, but can be too much for daytime use. Greasy keyboard and phone, not to mention hair (!), are a bummer. My go-to daytime moisturizer for hands is Weleda Sea Buckthorn Hand Cream.

So stock up, slather on, and reap the benefits.
