Feelgood Fashion: Recycled Clothing from Lur

Sustainable Fashion Lur

Lur is a sustainable clothing company dedicated to changing the fashion industry from within, one cute outfit at a time.

Ever since getting duped by faux-eco activewear, I’ve been a little bit wary of accepting samples from clothing companies to review. When the folks at Lur offered me a sample from their clothing line, I did a little bit of digging before taking their word that their fashion line was eco-friendly.

I was so pleasantly surprised!

Elements of Feelgood Fashion

For me, there are two main ingredients that go into making a brand truly Feelgood Style-worthy: sustainable materials and fair labor practices.

Lur uses 100% recycled fabric made from 45% recycled cotton scraps and 55% recycled plastic bottles. That means that they’re not only creating beautiful clothing with no new fabrics, but they’re diverting trash from the waste stream while they do it. Honestly, this floored me, because fabric is a passion for me. Nothing irks me like a company claiming to be eco-friendly that uses new conventional cotton. Want to know why? Read my article on dirty cotton over at Crafting a Green World!

Eco-friendly materials are important, but I also worry about the welfare of the workers who produced both my clothing and the materials that went into making it, and Lur won me over here, as well. Check out the strict code of conduct to which they hold all of their producers and supplies.

So! I knew that the materials were good and there were no labor worries. Boom! Let’s get a sample and try this out.

Fashion from Lur: Review

They sent me their Valley Button Sweater in charcoal/cloud stripes. I’m a sucker for big buttons, so of course I’m smitten with this sucker!

The fabric has the feel of a medium-weight jersey – think halfway between t-shirt and sweatshirt – and it’s super comfy. It’s also beautifully constructed and tailored enough to be a little bit dressy, if that’s what you’re going for. You could also dress it down with a pair of jeans and sneakers, which is more my speed.

I mentioned the buttons, and not to bore you with my button obsession, but look at how cute these are!

Fashion Big Buttons

They’re generous 1″ buttons, and they’re made from natural coconut fibers. Seriously, I’m obsessed!

The jacket they sent ran pretty true to size. I wear a small to medium size, and their medium is just a bit roomy on me. If you’re in between, I’d go a size down, but otherwise I’d stick with whatever size you have the most of in your closet.

You can shop Lur’s whole line of sustainable fashion on their website.
