Group Meditation: Coming together through chanting.

group meditation

What if one million people across the world got together for group meditation? Would it raise our collective consciousness? See & Do Together thinks that it can!

See & Do Together is a group meditation project that’s trying to fund its launch on IndieGoGo. Read on to find out a bit more about what they’re trying to do, and if you like the idea, you can head on over to IndieGoGo to donate!

I found out about See & Do Together when the folks behind it bought some ad space on our sister site, Vibrant Wellness Journal, and I’m so glad that I ran across them! Meditation has made a big difference in my well being, and it’s so great to see a project aimed at getting more folks to practice. If you’re new to meditation and find the whole concept a little bit daunting, I hope that you’ll check out a piece that I wrote at Care2 busting common meditation myths.

Meditation has all manner of health benefits whether you practice alone or in a group, but chanting together has added benefits. Here’s how the team behind See & Do Together explain it:

No one exists outside of their relationship to others. Oftentimes when in pursuit of improving the self, we forget that we are part of the collective consciousness of the planet. Group meditation can help this common human problem. While meditating alone is a fantastic way to become more aware of your mind, body and the world immediately around you, group meditation yields the extra benefit of MASS CONSCIOUSNESS.

The trouble is, it can sometimes be hard to for find other folks to chant with you. See & Do Together wants to change that by virtually connecting members, so that they can share that spirit and energy all over the world. Here is their video describing the project:

This project sort of reminds me of the emotional close to series three of the Dr. Who reboot, where Martha Jones defeats The Master. I know that this is probably too nerdy a reference for a lot of folks, but I couldn’t resist. If you’re not familiar with Dr. Who, I found the scene on YouTube:

Maybe a little bit corny, but the idea of connecting worldwide with like-minded folks through chanting and meditation really warms my heart. I am excited about this project and can’t wait to see where it goes!

Do you meditate? Would a virtual connection like this be something you’d incorporate into your practice?
