While there are an increasing number of brands and designers offering ethical and sustainable style for adults, there are also a number of emerging brands that produce pint-sized ecofashion styles for babies and children. Even though it’s only July, August is just around the corner and it will be back to school time before we know it! I wanted to share a few ideas for parents who are looking to purchase with a purpose for their children as we head into the school season.
My new favourite organic, eco-friendly, Made in Canada brand is based in my city, Toronto. I had the honour of meeting the founder and visionary of Dhana Ecokids, Shamini Dhana last week at the Ethical Fashion Forum Source Summit. Shamini comes from a corporate background, and left the financial sector to launch an ecofashion label for children in the San Francisco Bay area. Dhana Ecokids premier collection included a partnership with Irish-born artist Elaine Murphy. She produced exclusive artist renditions including, “…soft elements from nature as well as delightfully creative depictions of alternative energy sources”. The company works with GOTS certified organic textiles, promotes fair and ethical manufacturing, cultural diversity, and artistic appreciation.
