My Vanity by Liz Thompson

Since it is spring break.  And since it is the time of year where we cannot wait for the next season to emerge. And since we are a little shorthanded ‘round here these days (things will pick up soon, I promise!) I thought we’d do something fun mid-break, -season, -week.  Let’s talk hero products.

Ok I’ll start.  Following is a list of my top all time favorite natural cosmetics.  The products that I can’t stand to be without.  Those that I use year ‘round and miss when I forget to order soon enough.  These are more than staples.  They do amazing things and I have to have them.

My Hero Products

Lavera FACES Calendula Mattifying Balancing Cream   I use this perfect-feel moisturizing morning and night, summer and winter.  It is light, yet hydrating.  Mattifying without making skin look chalky.  Gentle enough for sensitive skin and all around the deal.  My only complaint – it needs to come in a bigger tube.

Dr. Hauschka Volumizing Mascara   I love lots of different mascara, but this one is top of the crop.  It is rich, silky, smooth, not at all cakey or clumpy, and delivers on either natural-look or glam.  You will not be sorry if you invest in a tube of this stuff.

Brown Eyeliner Pencil   When I was younger I always used black eyeliner pencil.  Always.  Now I pretty much only break out the black when I am getting dressed up.  For daily I go with brown.  It is natural, you can smudge on a nice wide line without looking goth, and it goes with anything.  My favorites for their creaminess and stay-put-ed-ness are Lavera and Benecos.

Cream Blush  Love how cream blush gives that dewy, natural look and can take you from pasty to awake in an instant.  Plus, you can swipe these little multi-taskers on lips and eyes if you feel like it.  My go-tos are RMS Lip2Cheek in Smile (read more about RMS in my interview with its founder, Rose-Marie Swift)and 100% Pure Lip & Cheek Tint in Baby Pink.

Soapwalla Cream Deodorant  This deodorant is the best in natural deodorants.  Heck, it is the best in any deodorant.  It keeps you fresh all day and helps to keep wetness at bay.  Enough said.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie   This cream lends gloss, enhances my curl, and adds body.  The tropical coconut/pineapple scent is totally awesome and the huge jar will seriously last me a year, at least.  The fact that you can find it at Walgreen’s is pretty great too.

Vapour Organics Illusionist Concealer   While I don’t wear foundation, I don’t leave the house without a little concealer.  This one does the trick on covering dark circles and redness.  I order always have this around.

Lip balm   Gotta have it.  I like to apply a layer under my lipgloss for extra hydration.  I’ve also been known to rub it on my dry knuckles in a pinch.  I like lots of these, but my fave has to be Crazy Rumors because they are smooth and come in soooo many yummy flavors.

Lipgloss   Seriously, if I do not have one with me (which is very rare) I feel naked and weird.  Love Benecos  and Vapour.

Twitstband Hair Ties   One is in my hair, or on my wrist at all times.  Won’t break hair or leave a dent.  And they come in so many colors and designs you will want them all!

There you have it.  My hero products.  Now for yours.  What do you have on hand at all times?  What are your favorite beauty products?

Love posts like these–will be following the comments for more suggestions :) I’ve had trouble finding a good eyeliner so I’m checking your suggestions out now! I actually just did a similar post recently on all my faves: http://imgladiexist.blogspot.com/2013/03/current-natural-beauty-shopping-list.html. In addition to those products I use a great deodorant from Rainwater Botanicals on Etsy, and as for makeup I’m pretty minimalistic–I use an Etsy cream blush and Mineral Fusion mascara.

Thank you for the list! However, I notice that many of these contain mica and/or talc. Do you know of any makeup that is both talc and mica free?

I love that you mentioned vapour lipgloss…it’s my fav go-to as well! For the last few months, I’ve fallen in love with Ava Anderson Non-Toxic’s body line…their deodorant in particular. All-natural, aluminum and parabens-free. Ingredients are organic coconut oil, organic beeswax, organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, aluminum free baking soda, organic arrowroot powder, organic tea tree essential oil, and organic peppermint essential oil. It smells fantasic, leaves zero stains, and works GREAT! AvaAndersonNonToxic.com/jodychase
