Buy Handmade Online: The Curatorial

When it comes to ethical shopping, buying handmade and vintage are some of the best ways to know that your purchases were produced under safe, clean conditions. It’s really a win all around, right? You get something beautiful and unique, and instead of throwing your money at a big corporation, your dollars go directly to the artist who created the item you’re purchasing.

Pop up shops – temporary stores selling seasonal, handmade and vintage goods – are also super hot right now. If you live in a major city, chances are there was a pop up shop somewhere near you around the holidays. They’re a fun way to support the handmade community – sort of like a craft market that runs for a few weeks instead of just a day or two. If you don’t have any pop shops in your area, though, don’t despair! Atlanta’s Indie Craft Experience (ICE) is launching a new online venture to bring the fun of a pop up shop to your computer screen: The Curatorial.

The Curatorial is a series of four online pop-up shops that the Indie Craft Experience is running this year, and the first one opens on March 15th! Each of the four shops has a different theme:

  1. Handcrafted Goodness – March 15-22
  2. Art Print Love – May 3-24
  3. Vintage Treasures – July 5-28
  4. Inspired Craft Supplies – October 4-25

According to the ICE ladies, they called their series of online shops The Curatorial because they’re pulling together a highly curated set of goodies from their favorite handmade and vintage sellers. That means no wading through marble magnets and corn husk dolls to get at the goodness. This shop is going to be stocked with goods that match the ICE aesthetic: hip, quirky, and totally modern.

They don’t launch until March 15th – so there isn’t much there now – but when the store opens in a couple of weeks, you will be able to shop at TheCuratorialATL.com.
