Cornelia Guest’s Cruelty-Free Handbags: Leather-Free Luxe

Cornelia Guest Cruelty Free Handbag

Looking for “humane and haute” accessories for fall—minus the hefty price tag that typically accompanies designer originals? Entrepreneur, author, and PETA poster girl Cornelia Guest  to the rescue!

Cornelia’s cruelty-free handbag collection, which features timeless styles that work for both day and night, is taking the fashion world by storm. The first season of her vegan handbag line for Bloomingdale’s completely sold out, and her must-have bags are being snapped up in stores across the country. Intermix is the latest retailer to add Cornelia’s feel-good fashions to its lineup.

Cornelia says that the success of her collection is no mystery: “It’s affordable and it’s an intelligent alternative, and people like the fact that it’s cruelty free.” For most consumers, leather loses its luster once they realize that cows and other animals who are killed for their skin endure all the horrors of factory farming, including castration, branding, and dehorning, often without any painkillers. Leather is also a co-product of the meat industry—which spews out greenhouse gasses and pollutes the planet.

What’s next for Cornelia? She told Gotham magazine that she’s “looking to expand into shoes and fake furs.” Perhaps one day soon we’ll even see Cornelia Guest vegan shoes for men!

Until then, explore some other überhip cruelty-free fashions with PETA‘s style guide.  With everyone from runway trailblazer Stella McCartney to strip-mall staples Target and Payless offering stylish synthetics, you’re sure to find something fabulous—and animal-friendly—for your fall wardrobe.
