5 Places to Find Eco Fashion on a Budget

By Paige Wolf, author of the book + blog: Spit That Out: The Overly Informed Parent’s Guide to Raising Children in the Age of Environmental Guilt

In the past few years, designers have proved that co-conscience fashion is not all about shapeless frocks made from hemp yarn. Linda Loudermilk and Stella McCartney took chic sustainability to fashion week. Unfortunately, most of us can barely afford a pair of organic cotton socks donning those labels.

But there are still plenty of ways to green your wardrobe and debunk the myth that eco-friendly fashion has to cost a fortune.

Of course, the greenest and cheapest way to shop is secondhand. Anything you purchase at a resale or consignment shop keeps once-worn apparel out of the landfill, and can assuage any guilt over coveted designer labels. But for brand new threads, there are a few places to shop for new ethical fashion on a budget.

1. Threads 4 Thought

Threads 4 Thought organic and sustainably sourced pieces are very well priced, with basics like tees and tanks regularly priced around $10.

2. SAVA

Don’t miss the sales from already reasonably priced SAVA, a sustainable fashion brand and manufacturer right in my city of Philadelphia.

3. H&M

While you may not love conventional mass brands practices, when they do make green strides, they reach a broad audience and become game changers in the market. H&M became one of the world’s biggest users of organic cotton with its super cute H&M Conscious Collection. Just try to snatch the collections up before they sell out!

4. Pure Citizen and JP Selects

My two favorite havens for flash sales, Pure Citizen and JP Selects offer deep discounts on eco fashion from brands like Stewart + Brown, Nixxi, SPUN, Toggery, and much more.

5. Arcadia Boutique, Nimli, Beklina, and Ecolissa

You can also shop fabulous multi-brand clearance sales at Arcadia Boutique, Nimli, Beklina, and Ecolissa.
