Sex and Health: 5 Reasons To Shag Your Way To Better Health

by Vanessa Roberts

sex and health

Knocking boots, the horizontal tango, shagging, smushing, bumping uglies, the nasty, nookie, or good ol’ fashioned getting laid. We have so many ways to say it but did you know that in addition to the fun, sex also has serious health benefits?

As if you needed another reason to do it.

Well in case you did, here are 5 ways sex and health go hand in hand.

1. It’s a Workout

Other than making your toes curl and your body shake, sex also helps you to burn some serious calories and tone your muscles.

In just a short 30 minute roll in the hay, you can burn up to 200 calories, and that’s just if you are taking it easy. Think of how long you would have to run on a treadmill to burn 200 calories. Something tells me most of us ladies would choose a sexy time session over a sweating at the gym.

What’s even better is if you turn that 30 minutes into a one hour sack session you could drop a pound in 3 weeks. Just by having sex. I fist pump just thinking of it.

While we’re doin’ it, we aren’t really paying attention to the different muscle groups that are working, but if you take a second to think about it, you are using your arms, legs, abs, and of course, your bum muscles. I don’t know about you, but sex just became my new favourite workout routine.

2. Sex Boosts Your Immunity

While most of us try to stay healthy and keep our immune system up to par by taking supplements and eating a healthy diet, sex can actually boost your immune system as much as either of these.

Having sex as little as only twice a week has been linked to increasing your levels of immunoglobulin A, a serious antibody that helps to protect your body from getting any colds or infections. And in case that isn’t good enough, some researchers at Wilkes University found that having sex gives your immune system a boost of up to 30%.

If you ask me, that’s a pretty good supplement to those supplements!

3. It’s The Ultimate Pain Relief

I’m sure you know the saying ‘no pain, no gain.’ Well if we are talking sex, baby it’s no pain, all gain!

After having an orgasm our bodies get a serious rush of oxytocin, our endorphins increase, and any pain we might have been feeling decreases. So if you have a headache, pain caused by arthritis, or PMS symptoms just hop into bed with that sexy partner of yours and work that pain away.

4. Get Younger Looking Skin With Each Go-Round

We all want to keep our youthful appearance for as long as we can without having to resort to expensive, or painful, procedures, and you know what can help you do this? Sex.

One study found that having orgasms as little as only twice a week can increase your life span. And all thanks to the lovely little hormone DHEA. DHEA is released once you climax and can help with tissue repair, keeping your skin healthy and clear, as well as slowing down your skin’s aging process.

So skip the botox, hop into bed, and hump your way to younger looking skin.

5. Sensuous Cancer Prevention

By now I’m sure you don’t need yet another reason to have sex, but just in case you do, according to the American Medical Association, the more a man *cough* finishes, the less likely he is to develop prostrate cancer later on in life. While the cancer risk for men who have frequent sex is only slightly lower than men who don’t, what’s the harm in giving it a go, right?

So not only does sex make you feel good, but it can also help your man to stay healthy well into his later years.

Now I might be reaching here but it sounds to me like sex is really a smart, and healthy, activity to work into your weekly routine. So grab your man for some sexy time, and shag your way to better health.
