Eat Your Way to Healthy Skin

food for skin

Our skin is our face’s calling card, and it can say so much about you. It’s no wonder that we strive for healthy, radiant, glowing skin that helps us to look young and healthy!

It can be a challenge to find a skin cream that works these anti-aging miracles on our skin, and an expensive challenge at that. Creams that promise us younger-looking skin are often full of mystery chemicals which can actually do more damage to our skin. That’s why it’s best to stick to natural skincare products, or best yet choose the right food for skin health!

Yep! You can eat your way to healthy skin. It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?

Our world is full of healthy, natural foods that contain the nutrients and essential ingredients our skin needs to look its absolute best.

Remember What Mom Said – Always Take Your Vitamins

Vitamins and minerals are extremely important if you want healthy, clear, naturally glowing skin. Fortunately, to achieve this kind of beautiful skin you don’t need to buy expensive creams and serums or go under the knife. You can find it in the produce aisle.

Give your skin a vitamin-fueled kick by keeping your kitchen stocked with organic fruits such as:

  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • blackberries
  • raspberries
  • pomegranates
  • plums

Not only does it make for a tasty organic snack but you will also be feeding your skin essential vitamins it needs, as well as some of the most powerful antioxidants, which ultimately helps to protect your skin from harmful free-radicals.

Free radicals, such as the kind formed by prolonged exposure to the sun, damage your skin cell membranes, possibly harming the DNA of your skin cells. By eating food for skin that are rich in antioxidants you are helping to protect your skin, keeping it as healthy as possible and ultimately giving you younger looking skin.

Fats Are Phat

Healthy fats, that is. Essential fatty acids help to keep your cell membranes healthy. Try adding some of these healthy sources of fat to your diet:

  • avocados
  • salmon
  • walnuts
  • cold pressed virgin olive oil
  • flax seeds
  • chia seeds

This is crucial, since healthy cell membranes act as a barrier to keep harmful agents away from your skin while allowing good-for-you nutrients into your cells. On top of that, the cell membrane is what keeps water inside your cells, and the stronger that barrier is, the more hydrated your skin is going to look and feel. Something all of us ladies vie for.

So go ahead, fill your plate with as much healthy and organic food for skin as you can. Your skin will thank you for it!
