Feelgood Friday – Five Minute Healing Meditations

Need a little reminder to meditate? I know I do, it’s only, sometimes I need a five minute meditation, not a five day retreat. I’d like to be able to drop down into a meditative state anytime, anyplace, wherever I am, and whoever I am around.

For starters, one of the best ways to meditate is to try smiling more. Mother Teresa taught us that “a smile is the beginning of peace.”

Mary of Goodlife Zen explains that “it’s important to enjoy meditation. You might like to try sitting with a hint of a smile. Be kind to yourself.”

Here in Rodney Yee’s 5-minute meditation he shares a simple heart centering exercise in a seated position. Yee teaches us how to soften the mind, enhance heart energy, and calm our breath.

Another amazing way to meditate is to go for a walk or sit in nature, even if it is only a little while, your body will thank you for the extra oxygen. One easy meditation is to imagine the natural world is breathing fresh air into you and as you return your exhale it is taking it from you. Try this for five minutes with focused awareness as if the universe is breathing you.

You cannot perceive beauty, but with a serene mind.
– Henry David Thoreau
