Our wonderful fellow writer Frans Prins writes in today for all our Berlin readers:

“You might have heard of our event THEKEY.TO, the new international event for green fashion and sustainable lifestyle in Berlin, taking place the coming week from 20th to 23rd of January 2010 during the Berlin Fashion Week. We are presenting a selection of over 50 gorgeous green fashion designers all in a Berlin-like artistic atmosphere, with sustainable architecture and a boosting workshop & party program.

I would be delighted if you would spread the word about our amazing project! Off course you are very welcome to come over and visit us. More info you can find on our website: http://thekey.to.

I am looking forward hearing from you and thank you for your support!

All the best, Frans

This event represents the first in the city of Berlin that is exclusively focused on sustainable fashion. Read on for details. In his correspondence, Frans shares how he and Gereon Pilz van der Grinten and Rostislav Komitov conceived the idea at the beginning of 2009 as an international team of interdisciplinary visionary professionals — “who felt the need to provide a dedicated space to the new green fashion movement. It is all about a new generation of designers which addresses the need for a more responsible production by harmonically interlinking a challenging research of style with the use of organic materials and the respect for fair trading…”

If you are in Berlin or close by, this event is not to be missed. Over 50 exhibitors “embodying this new generation” will take part in the second edition, coming from all over the world (Germany, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Poland, Austria, Canada, USA).

Ultimately this Key event:

“wants to spread a signal of optimism and provoke with the idea that we are already in the middle of a transformation towards an era where coolness and a sense for quality and responsibility are naturally interlinked. The press conference and the following forum – The Key to Shift – alongside with diverse workshops will build the Shift Sessions: a unique and various platform focused on an active interchange of culture, information and visions among international experts, the press and the green community about the main topic of sustainability.”

Other cool eco-examples are the refreshments: raw food and drinks. Another cool event detail is that the furniture is made out of 100%  recyclable cardboard and is very functional, new and innovative.

Hopefully there will be tons of press and interviews with the designers at this amazing global eco fashion event!

In addition, here are a couple examples of the workshops and exhibits that will be at the event:

  • Swap, Make and Restyle at the Fashion Reloaded Station: “Challenges the visitor to take the step from user to maker and to reinterpret the use of recycled clothing. The visitor is invited to bring his/her old clothing swapping it for new favorites and joining various workshops to experiment, sew and screen print unique creations under the assistance of young designers.”
  • Eco Chic Exhibit: Learn to enhance the elegance of spaces. “The exhibition organized by the Swedish Institute of Stockholm highlights a selection of leading-edge Swedish designers who took an environmentally-friendly and ethical approach to their work, without renouncing to style.”
