New from Gaiam Green Home: Thai Artisan Crafted, Reversible, All-Weather Mat Contest

Last season we gave away an earth friendly yoga mat from Gaiam. Now we are back with a contest to win this recycled plastic, floral patterned, reversible all-weather floor mat.

This truly is a product that gives back:

“Make any room, whether indoors or out, that much more inviting. Our recycled plastic floor mats are handcrafted by Thai artisans who receive a fair wage for their craft. Made entirely from spent soda bottles, the durable multicolored polypropylene strands stand up to foot traffic in mudrooms, kitchens, or anywhere else there are plenty of comings and goings.” Made with love in Thailand.

  1. Love the color combinations.

  2. What a great product. Not only is it green because they use recycled spent soda bottles but the people who make these get a fair wage for creating this wonderful rug. It is quite beautiful and it will stand up to quite a bit of traffic.

So this is like combining the fair trade of TenThousandVillages with the mind-body wellness of Gaiam…I like it.

  4. I’m glad recycled plastic is good for something. I love these mats.

It is such a beautiful mat, people will not believe that it is sustainable and using products that people throw out all the time. And it is fair trade. I just got back from Power Shift 09, the largest youth summit on climate change, so any product that recycles and has fair trade practices involved is brilliant in my book.

  6. Wow, such a pretty mat. Fair trade is really nice too. I hate to keep riding on the backs of third world labor for my comfortable lifestyle. And soda bottle as the recycled material … so interesting. How do they do that?

  7. i lovw that this mat is made from something that would otherwise end up in landfills. I also love the idea that it can be easily cleaned and therefore owned for longer. This is an amazing innovation!

  8. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand 16 years ago and brought a few of these mats back home. They do not break down! I have used them on a side outdoor porch, we roll it up and take it camping in the bottom of our tent, it’s used in place of a picnic blanket, etc. They are beautiful and so durable
